ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) should play more
proactive role for horticulture development in Arunachal Pradesh, said state Horticulture
Minister Honchum Ngandam while addressing the 82nd Annual general meeting of ICAR
at New Delhi on February 2. He also appealed the Central government pay special attention

The ICAR also organized a “farm Innovators” meeting for grass root level potential innovators and their innovation. A progressive farmer from Sagalee Tana Taba took part showcasing “how to harvest oranges” using low cost ladder and harvesting equipment made from locally available bamboo and wood along with other innovators from various states.
Earlier, in his inaugural address ICAR president and Union Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Minister Sharad Pawar said ‘Agriculture sector offers considerable scope for equitable growth of the economy. He added that innovation and human resources are the twin engines of growth and development and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is playing a key role in providing the technological solutions and human resource development to achieve inclusive growth.
While referring persistent challenges before agriculture, Pawar said National Agricultural Research System through its cutting edge technologies and human resources gives confidence to the nation for successfully meeting these challenges.

Campaign ends successfully, AAPSU team returns from Delhi
ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Representatives of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today returned to Itanagar after a successful campaign at Delhi against Chinese claim over Arunachal Pradesh.
During their stay at Delhi AAPSU members led by President Takam Tatung and General Secretary Tujom Poyom had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Secretary GK Pillai, and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jately and intellectual communities.
ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The State Government’s move to urbanize some of the areas of Doimukh has been strongly opposed by the people of the circle.
The Doimukh People Forum (DPF), which is spearheading the protest movement, in a release, said that the declaration on urbanization of some of the areas of Doimukh has been made in an ‘unlawful’ manner in ‘violation’ of various provisions under Arunachal Pradesh Municipal Act, 2007.
No urban schemes/ projects will be carried out at Doimukh area since the area is under Panchayat Raj system of governance. And, as such, the area can not be declared as urban, DPF said.

‘Muskan’ launches beauty care and tailoring courses
ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Continuing it effort towards empowerment of women and weaker section of the society, the Muskan Welfare Society (MWS) in collaboration of Oju Welfare Association, launched two self employment generating courses today. State First Lady Anupama Singh, MWS Chairperson inaugurated the courses on beauty care and tailoring at Oju Mission Centre, Naharlagun.
In her inaugural address, Anupama, said, we can empower women only if we provide them with avenues for financial independence. It can only be realized through employment or self employment, which in turn depends on the ability of the individuals. To enhance the capability and strengthen their skill, trainings courses are required, she said adding the MWS is focusing on those avenues, which will enhance their capacity, as such tailoring and beauty care courses were selected.
She expressed her gratitude to Oju Welfare Association for joining hands with Muskan Welfare Society in organizing the courses. “I am sure this joint effort of us will go a long way empowerment of women and weaker section of the society,” she added. Providing some valuable tips to the trainees on the occasion, she said to be success in these fields we have to be discipline, dedicated and fully devote ourselves to the profession. The world has changed. Today these professions are highly dignified, she exhorted.
A designer herself, the First Lady, said fashion trends dictate that we wear whatever is in season but it simply starts with tailoring. It is the basic for all fashions in the world today. Sharing her experiences, Singh said, I always found my tailors to be very busy, which indicates that there is huge market for the profession.
Extending her best wishes for successful conduct of the courses, Singh called upon all the trainees to avail maximum benefit of the opportunity provided to them and become examples for others in entrepreneurships and self employment in the future.
The First lady, who earlier toured the whole Oju Mission complex, which houses the infant home, handloom and handicraft sections and sale counter said, every visit to this centre inspire me to work harder for my Arunachalee children and women. Placing her words of appreciations for OWA Chairperson Binny Yanga, Singh said Yanga has risen above all expectations in fighting against social evils as child marriage, bride price and forced marriage thereby rendering invaluable services to the nation.

Rabindra and his legacy

This is in reference to Sumon Das's letter "Rabindra Bhawans and Assam"( 31 January).
His vehement protest against the proposed Rabindra Bhawans simply defy all norms
of logic. How can such a step amount to an anti-
Mr. Das holds every right to see and demand a Bhavan named after Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Nathan Brown and Elizabeth Brown instead of Rabindranath Tagore, but he has absolutely no authority to denigrate the great humanitarian.
Throughout his life, Tagore wrote and worked for nationalism, universal brotherhood,
global peace and upliftment of human values. Being citizen of India and the world
and for being a part of the human race, people of Assam automatically found their
place in Tagore's mind. He religiously fought against exploitation of any community,
womenfolk and children. His thoughts on education, emancipation of women, communal
harmony and international relations are still extremely relevant today. Tagore also
dreamt of a world where communities would merge together to act as true human beings,
but by retaining their respective unique culture and language. Thus Tagore was not
only a Bengali, he was also an Indian, a citizen of the world and humanity-
This is the very reason why the whole world, including the United Nations, has launched

Moreover, Tagore was an Indian and Assam is also an integral part of India. Now,
is there any law in the country that all landmarks will be named only after indigenous
persons? If such a mentality gains root in the country where people born in other
states will be rendered untouchables, even if that "alien" happens to be a stalwart
named Rabindranath Tagore, then really it is a very bad omen for India. Tagore was
not only critical of different weaknesses and sins of the Bengalis, it was he who
forsook his Knighthood to protest against the Jalianwala Bagh massacre in Punjab,
thereby earning the wrath of trhe British. Viswa-
Has Kapildev done anything for Assam cricket? Had Mahatma Gandhi fought for Assam or Karnataka's independence? All the answers are "No". Still each and every Indian should be proud of them because they have all immensely contributed towards our nation ie India. And that is the very reason why Tagore is for Bengal, Assam and every corner of India. And if Rabindra Bhawans are being erected to woo the migrant Bengali voters of Assam, then it can also be said that Mahatma Gandhi and B.R.Ambedkar's birthdays are being treated as "National Holidays" to woo the Gujaratis and Marathis respectively! As far as Tagore's receipt of "more recognition than he deserves", then the question arises as to what is the limit of recognition and who will draw that boundary? And if Tagore has really got "more than he deserves", still it is far far less than Gandhi, the whole Nehru clan( right from Jawaharlal to Rahul), Sachin Tendulkar and many stars of Bollywood.
It is extremely unfortunate that the person respected worldwide for his literary genius, liberal views and for his message of love for human race is being regionally exploited by certain individuals of his own beloved country.

Extend the renewable period
Dear Editor,
I would like to raise the issue of Renewal period of Inner Line Permits (ILP).
ILP is required by Indians other than natives of Arunachal Pradesh for entering into any place in Arunachal Pradesh. The ILPs are issued by the Issuing authorities of Government of Arunachal Pradesh with offices at Delhi, Kolkata, Tezpur, Guwahati, Shillong, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Jorhat. The ILP is designed to prevent permanent settlement of non locals within the ILP area. It is also a travel permit in a limited way. The ILP issued for business man and government servant have the Validity of only 1 year whereas there are a large number of people who are residing in Arunachal Pradesh since 1970. But they have to renew the ILP every year, for this they have to take help of Dalals which is more expensive for the common peoples.
I would like to request our government to increase the validity of ILP from 1 year to 5 years and the fee of 5 years will be paid at a time only. This will decrease the work burden for officials and will be beneficial for the common people. This step of government will enable free movement and thereby faster national integration.

It had been published without taking consent from the trainees and therefore the fake information given is highly regretted. Further, as a matter of fact we are really embarrassed for this condemnable act done by such self vested and cowardice person, and far more embarrassing part is defaming such Police organization in a superficial manner. This organization does not encourage such act by anyone who likes to play the card in anonymity. We highly honour the commendable service imparted through this reputed training centre which has its own course of history since post independence. We feel proud to be a part of this highly reputed institution.

Sexual harassment in schools
Dear Editor,
Parents of students of VKV Jairampur are sure very much worried about their child's
safety and education following sexual, mental and physical harassment upon some students.
I wonder why this evil has come to light only now, considering the fact that many
other VKVs and some private schools have this evil trend since yesteryears. Sodomy
was prevalent in such schools in yesteryears, but the recent news make us beleive
that sexual crime is still being committed. Now the VKV authorities should not blame
me for dis-
So I think its time the parents and authorities of various private schools take it seriously and organise meetings to discuss and form new policies to prevent such abuses.
